Bourn Surgery is a training practice, involved in training GP Registrars. A GP Registrar is a fully qualified doctor who has already graduated from medical school and completed their first few years as a junior doctor in hospital medicine. Doctors can then chose to specialise as a General Practitioner (GP), and have to undertake a further three years of training in order to qualify as a GP. A doctor who is part of this training scheme is known as a GP Registrar. During this three-year training period, GP Registrars undertake training in both hospitals and several GP practices. While with us, GP Registrars see patients on their own, but have the support of the GPs in the practice when needed. A GP Registrar has to complete their three years of training and pass further exams before being able to work as a GP.

Our current GP Registrars are Dr Katherine Woods and Dr Gregory Trilling. Depending on the stage of training they are at, GP Registrars stay with us for varying lengths of time, with some placements being as short as six months, before they move on to their next training post.

From November 2018 our practice will also be joined by Dr Jassim Ali for a six-month period. Dr Ali is a fully qualified GP who previously trained at Bourn Surgery as a GP Registrar, and since qualifying has worked in several local practices. Dr Ali will be providing additional appointments while we look at ways of managing the increasing workload levels within our existing team of GPs.
