MAKING AN APPOINTMENT:
Bourn surgery is able to offer face to face, video-consultation and telephone appointments. These are routinely available between 8:30AM and 6PM.
There are several options for making your appointment:
- You can make a routine appointment online using either the NHS App or the SystmOnline Patient Online Services. You will need to register for these service (see separate pages on website).
- You can telephone for an appointment on (01954) 719469.
- You can use our Online Symptom checker to decide if an appointment at the surgery is necessary, this is provided by the Doctorlink online symptom checker – see separate Doctorlink page for more information.
Please note that one appointment is for ONE problem only. If you have more than one problem to discuss please book a double appointment.
If you have a medically urgent problem, please telephone reception to ask for an urgent appointment. We will do our best to fit in urgent problems into a short emergency appointment slot. We ask all patients to not abuse this system and keep these slots for genuinely urgent need. Please contact the surgery as early in the day as possible.
Due to the unpredictable nature of any surgery, please be tolerant if we run late.
ACCESSING MEDICAL CARE WHEN THE SURGERY IS CLOSED:
24/7 medical advice is available via telephone by simply calling NHS 111. Your call will be triaged by the call handler to enable you to access appropriate out of hours medical care (this may be via self care, an out of hours GP or A&E).
From 8.00am to 8.30am in a medical emergency you can call 01954 718772 and speak to the Practice Manager. If clinically necessary she will disturb the doctor, otherwise the surgery is open from 8.30 on the normal number.
Home visits are only indicated for patients who are unable to attend the surgery. This would generally be those patients who are ordinarily housebound and unable to leave the house.
If you are too ill to come to the surgery, a home visit can be requested by ‘phoning the surgery before 10:00 , giving details of the illness. Home visit requests are triaged by the duty doctor to assess appropriateness prior to visiting.
We work closely with the Cambridgeshire Joint Emergency Team (JET) who are commissioned to provide urgent medical assessments for housebound unwell patients and those with sudden worsening of chronic health conditions.
We are a training practice for GP registrars – these are fully trained qualified doctors who are undertaking supervised practice in the speciality of general practice.
As part of their training we undertake joint training surgeries, during these surgeries there will be both the GP registrar and a training GP in the consultation. You will be informed of the joint surgery if you are offered one of these slots.
Occasionally we may ask your permission for another GP to observe the consultation with the GP registrar or for the GP registrar to video your consultation as part of their training. Please see our privacy information.
